Country Lavender

Roll down the windows on a summer’s drive through nearby Cobourg (only 60 minutes east from the GTA), and you might think you’re in France, thanks to Scott’s Barn on Mclean Road.

Scott’s Barn grows 16 varieties of lavender, all with distinctly different colours, tastes and wonderful smells – and is the site of this weekend’s Lavender Festival.

Tour the fields in bloom and sample fragrant, culinary treats such as lavender lemonade, cookies, goat cheese and their famous lavender ice cream. There’s even lavender beef from neighbouring Hoskin Farm. Down the road in Grafton, Cuttle Cottage is also in full purple splendour.

From lavender to Lindsay, the Lindsay Country Music Jamboree at the Agricultural Society Grounds is sure to sound the right note this weekend.  Starting on Thursday, day passes and campsites are available for live performances by acts and entertainers including Montana Sky, Stompin Jon, Mahogany Ridge and The Tonettes.

If your idea of camping includes comfortable beds and a hot shower, check into one of the area’s many places to sleep like the Saucy Willow Inn or the Royal Resort.

And to add some culture to your country getaway, stop at the Lindsay Gallery Annual Juried Show.  This annual competition showcases outstanding work by artists in the Kawarthas.

Whether your weekend plans include flowers, fiddlers or fine art, come to the region that has it all – Peterborough, Kawartha Lakes and Northumberland. After only one visit, we’re sure that “Our Favourite Place” we’ll become your favourite place.
