Get fresh this weekend at one of the many Farmers Markets located throughout Peterborough, Kawartha Lakes and Northumberland – the
land of 1000 perfect getaways.
The region is located only a short drive east from the GTA and grows an impressive variety of world-class produce. With an abundance of clean air, fresh water and rich farmland, the area boasts agricultural products that rival the world’s finest.
That’s why it’ll be love at first bite when you taste some of the many seasonal splendors on display right now, ranging from crisp green beans right off the vine to delicious, wild blueberries – perfect for pies! On the savoury side, shop for sausages, local beef and lamb. You may even discover emu meat!
Look for artisan-made goat cheese to put on homemade, gluten-free bread, jam preserves to spread on fresh-baked scones and varieties of honey to glaze your pork ribs.
Farmers Markets are open throughout the region every Saturday until Thanksgiving. If driving along highway 401, check out the seasonal produce and handmade crafts in Port Hope, Cobourg and Brighton. Along the 35/115, visit the stands in Lindsay, Bobcaygeon and Peterborough. In the Rice Lake area, markets are located in Hastings and Campbellford.
