Tastes of Summer

Farmer’s markets and roadside stands are now bursting with delicious strawberries. The short drive from the GTA northeast to the Kawarthas brings you to the McLean and Buckhorn Berry Farms and their annual Strawberry Festival running throughout July.  Live music, pick-your-own-strawberries, wagon and hayrides, and a BBQ make for a “berry” good day for the whole family.  For more information, check out the “Berried” Treasure Map & Guide.

After a day of strawberry feasting and fun, book an overnight stay at one of the many charming accommodations such as Westwind Inn or Selwyn Shores Waterfront Bed and Breakfast, and enjoy ripe, Ontario strawberries in tasty recipes prepared by talented local chefs.

If antiques and classics are more your speed, this is also the weekend of the 18th Annual Lakeside Antique & Classic Car Show in Cobourg.  The show runs Sunday from 9am – 4pm and features beautifully preserved and restored vehicles from the early 1900s to 1990.

While in Cobourg, also check out Legacy Vintage, one of designer Thomas Smythe’s “favourite salvage shops,” currently featured in the August issue of Canadian House & Home magazine.  These vintage lighting, fixtures and salvaged architectural pieces add personality and panache to any decor.

Whether your weekend plans include sweet strawberries, sweet rides or sweet design finds, the region that has it all is called, “Our Favourite Place.”  So head to Peterborough, Kawartha Lakes and Northumberland this weekend.  We’re sure that Our Favourite Place will become your favourite place.
